DIY Roll-on Perfume with Essential Oils | Butternutrition.com
Who says smelling delicious has to be toxic? Here is a VERY EASY way to make your own DIY roll-on perfume at home using essential oils! You can use any essential oil (or blend) you want, but I chose to make mine using: vanilla, lime and lavender. The great thing about using essential oils is that they not only smell so wonderful, they actually have wonderful beneficial properties that can help you relax, calm, de-stress, and uplift your mood (depending on which ones you use). Because essential oils can be expensive, you may want to read this post about how to save $$ and get them at wholesale prices in a starter kit!

Some of my favorite combinations for roll-on perfume are:

  • 50:50 combo of Vanilla/Lavender (perfect for bedtime)
  • 75:25 combo of Grapefruit/Peppermint (very relaxing, this one smells like a liquid daydream!)
  • 90:10 combo of Lime/Clove (helps ease the feelings of stress)

Ingredients:

Fractionated coconut oil (like this)
Jojoba oil (like this)
Essential oils of choice, I used a vanilla/lavender blend, and lime
Roll on tubes 10ml (like this)
Dropper (optional, like this)

Process:

1) Fill each 10ml roll-on perfume bottle with the following:

  • 1.5 teaspoon fractionated coconut oil
  • ½ teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 12-25 drops of high quality essential oil of your choice (use more if you want a stronger perfume, I prefer it more subtle)

2) Snap on the roller
3) Shake as needed to combine.

What are your favorite essential oils and/or combinations? Please share in the comments!

Please advise using essential oils that have been steam extracted or distilled. Some oils are extracted with petroleum distillates and are unacceptable..

      Hi Karen,

I'm interested in your comment, and would like to ask just out of interest why essential oils extracted with petroleum distillates are not acceptable; are they bad for the skin?

      Thanks, M

My favorite essential oil combo is lemongrass & clary sage. I would also like vanilla/lavender.

Where do you get the vanilla (oil)? Or do you use extract, or what?

I was wondering about the vanilla as well I make my own vanilla extract. Is that what you mean. There doesn't seem to be a young living vanilla essential oil.

You can buy vanilla essential oil where other essential oils are sold. I always use some vanilla in my perfumes. I've even been known to just use the vanilla. It smells so good.

Isn't a 10 ml bottle kind of small to use as a roll-on?

    Hi,
Can i just use Young Living Veg Oil only or need to use both FCO and Jojoba oil for the roll on perfume ?

    Thanks.

Yep! Any carrier oil will work (as long as it does not smell).

      Thanks for reading!

Do suggest you adding alcohol? I've read elsewhere adding high-proof vodka is necessary, but perhaps that's only for spray bottles...

Yes, Jojoba oil or sweet almond oil would work great too.

HI want to try and make the combo perfumes. When you post your combinations like 50:50 vanilla/lavender mix them together and then in the process to follow , you add 12-25 drops of essential oil is this when you have mixed the combo first then the 12-25 of that mix right? Just want to make sure. Thank you

Nice post! I think it's important for some oils, like vanilla, that people ensure they are purchasing the true oil and not a "fragrance oil". I made that mistake initially when buying rose.
