Sometimes you need a little help calming down at night, and help falling asleep. Although insomnia is deeply rooted in poor blood sugar regulation, this sleepytime spray with magnesium oil and lavender can help provide a little bit of help while you work on those deeper sleep issues. If you have chronic sleep issues, you'll want to checkout my anti-insomnia checklist.
But back to magnesium. Magnesium deficiency is all too common, as magnesium is needed for over 300 reactions in the body, not sufficient in our food supply, and wasted by the body during times of stress. According to Dr. Carolyn Dean, ND, MD, low magnesium levels can play a role in:
- Asthma
- Blood clots
- Bowl diseases
- Cystitis
- Depression
- Detoxification
- Diabetes
- Fatigue
- Heart Disease
- Hypertension
- Hypoglycemia
- Insomnia
- Kidney Disease
- Liver Disease
- Migraines
- Muscle and nerve problems
- Osteoporosis
- Tooth decay
- Raynauds Syndrome
- Anxiety and panic attacks
Although it's best to get this important mineral from food, transdermal sources (magnesium oil, spray, epsom salt baths) of magnesium can be an additional source and very effective way to reverse deficiency. Lavender on the other hand, can be very uplifting, calming, and relaxing that can help prepare you for bedtime.
Magnesium Oil & Lavender Sleepytime Spray Ingredients:
¼ cup filtered water
¼ cup magnesium chloride flakes (where to find magnesium flakes)
⅛ teaspoon Lavender essential oil (where to find essential oils at wholesale prices)
Glass bottle (like this)
Process:
1) Heat water, just before boiling point.
2) Remove from heat and add magnesium chloride flakes (not epsom salts, they will not work).
3) Add ⅛ teaspoon lavender essential oil.
4) Let cool and place in a glass spray bottle.
5) Use magnesium oil at bedtime or after a bath to get some transdermal magnesium.
6) The magnesium oil spray can be washed off (if you want) after letting it soak in for about 20 minutes.

I have tried magnesium oil and I have tried lavender. Neither worked that well for sleeping. But the combo of the two is like magic! It WORKS! Yea!

Hi, How much is used to be effective and are there parts of your body that are more "absorbent" than others? Thank you.

I already have homemade magnesium oil...if I just add lavender EO, will it incorporate properly, or does it need to be warm?
Zhay
If I have magnesium oil, can I just add the lavender oil?

How to apply the magnesium oil???
WHERE?

How much and/or will magnesium powder work when mixed with lavender?

You want magnesium CHLORIDE, which comes in a chunky flake (thought it would be mor like those salt flakes for cooking), a few stirs in the just-boiling water and it dissolved readily. Adding a few drops of Lavender to add to the sleep inducing part, sleep like a baby (LOL, sleep like a baby, wake up every 4 hrs)
You don't want to use your "Natural Calm" drink powder for this sleepy spray, it is magnesium citrate and might irritate your skin...
Carolyn
Good places to apply transdermal medications are on the thinner parts of your skin. Bottom of feet, inner arm, backs of knees, back between shoulder blades, top of feet are some places that I have been told to apply transdermal applications so they could be good for this too. Bottom of feet is the most common one for kids.

Do you spray this in your pillow or on your skin?
Kim
Do you have to use a "glass" spray bottle?

Magnesium from food? Ain't gonna happen in the US.
Yuk, I have oily skin and can't stand how magnesium oil feels. I know it's not oil but it feels like it, hence the name.
Short of shots, there's no super effective way to get any. I also have IBS and can't tolerate even time released Jigsaw nor Remag. However I discovered a doctor in UK who advises some patients to nebulize Epsom salt mixed with water. She says they've done RBC testing before and after and it makes a difference.
