I like a little bit of natural genius in my life, don't you? Your body will thank you with these simple, healthy lifestyle changes that leave your home a healthier and happier place!
1) Trouble relaxing at night: Lavender Epsom salt bath
HOW: Add a few drops of lavender to 2-4 cups of epsom salt, and then add it to the bath (the lavender dissolves in water better if added to the salt first). Soak for 15-20 minutes before bedtime to induce relaxation.
2) Non-toxic dryer sheets: Make your own!
WHY: According to Mike Adams in this article "When people use dryer sheets, they are coating their cloths with a thin film of artificial chemical perfumes. Just like other perfumes, a person’s sensitivity to these perfumes decreases over time to the point where they don’t even notice how potent these artificial fragrance chemicals are. None of this would be interesting if it weren’t for the fact that these fragrance chemicals are extremely toxic. They are known carcinogens. They cause liver damage and cancer in mammals.” YIKES!
HOW: Put 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil (I like lemon or lavender) on a damp washcloth and throw in the dryer for fresh smelling laundry the non-toxic way!!
3) Relax sore muscles: Try PanAway
HOW: Massage 1-2 drops of PanAway essential oil with some coconut oil on your body to relieve tired and sore muscles.
4) Natural perfume: Valor essential oil blend
WHY: Commercial fragrances contain "toxic hidden ingredients" under the guise of "fragrance," a loophole in the FDA's labeling system that lets toxins go unidentified.
HOW: Place 1-2 drops of Valor essential oil (or your favorite) to your wrists and massage in gently for a delightful and uplifting natural scent.
5) Clean Hands: DIY Thieves spray
WHY: Commercial hand santizers often contain the pesticide triclosan that can negatively affect hormone levels.
HOW: In a small spray bottle place a ¼ teaspoon of salt with about 10 drops of Thieves essential oil and ¼ cup water. Spray on as a natural hand sanitizer.
6) Air Fresheners: A few drops of Peace & Calming essential oil in your diffuser
WHY: According to the EPA, Air Fresheners commonly contain formaldehyde, petroleum distillates, p- dichlorobenzene, and aerosol propellants. These chemicals are strong irritants to eyes, skin, and throat, and can even cause death if eaten by pets or people! #scarystuff
HOW: Get the same pleasant smell with a few drops of Peace & Calming essential oil in your home diffuser.
7) Stress soother: StressAway essential oil
WHY: Biting your nails or losing your temper due to stress does nothing for anyone. StressAway is an all natural essential oil blend designed to help you tone your stress down a bit with some stress soothing qualities!
HOW: StressAway essential oil is a blend of copaiba, lime, vanilla, & lavender therapeutic-grade essential oils to help induce relaxation, reduce mental rigidity and restore your equilibrium. Diffuse in your home diffuser or apply one drop to the wrists, feet, temples or neck.
8) Upset stomach: Soothing Peppermint essential oil
HOW: Rub 1 drop of peppermint essential oil into your palm with a little bit of coconut oil. Rub on your stomach to help ease nausea naturally.
9) Household Odors: Purification spray
WHY: According to the environmental working group, "A few companies provide ingredient lists on their website in response to consumer demand, but the word "fragrance" may hide dozens of chemicals, many of which may never have been assessed for safety."
HOW: Make purification spray by adding 30-40 drops of Purification essential oil to a spray bottle with about 16oz of water (few tablespoons of vinegar optional). Use as a you would an air freshening spray or in smelly trash cans.
