Ingredients:
4-6 apples, cored, peeled and sliced
1 cup apple cider (additive free)
1-2 cups water
1 tablespoon butter
Caramel sauce (recipe here)
Process:
1) Core, peel and slice apples and put in a large pot with the butter. I used a dutch oven (like this).
2) Add 1 cup apple cider and 1 cup of water.
3) Bring to a boil, and then turn down to a simmer.
4) Let simmer for 40-50 minutes, while occasionally stirring and mashing (I used a muddler).
5) Add additional water as needed to allow apples to cook without burning the bottom of the pan.
6) Mix in about 1 tablespoon of caramel sauce with every ¾ cup of applesauce. Top with extra caramel.
